FLIGHT ATTENDANTS IN NORTH AMERICA ARE NOT PAID FOR BOARDING.*

Their pay only begins when the plane doors close and the pilots let out the brakes.**

When you are paid hourly, as flight attendants are, you can imagine how this affects your financial security and morale.

Though they are not paid for boarding, flight attendants are able to be fired when in uniform. Before the flight takes off, flight attendants are working: helping with customers, doing security checks, and preparing the galley for flight. They perform their duties, are required to remain professional, and yet are not financially compensated for this time.

On the surface, being a flight attendant looks like a marvelous career. Who could be upset at the possibility of waking up in a different country every day? The reality of the position is different. As soon as your head hits a hotel pillow, you’re back on a plane, and right back to work. It can be really challenging to find a work/life balance, and it can be incredibly lonely to be away from loved ones for long periods of time. Flight attendant suicide is at an all-time high.**

Pay Me for Boarding is not affiliated with any unions or airlines. Please use caution, follow your company’s policy, and use discretion when wearing our products.

While flight attendants really need a change, they know it won’t happen overnight. Our hope at Pay Me for Boarding is to pressure airlines to adequately compensate their employees, and shine a light on issues in aviation.

Please be patient as we continue to update the website.

*Delta recently began paying their flight attendants 50% of their rate for 40 minutes of work as boarding pay. Skywest was the second airline to introduce boarding pay at 25% of your hourly rate for 30 minutes of work and have taken away ground hold pay

** It’s important to note that pilots are also not being compensated for this time.
